Abstract
Pancreatic secretion was studied in 3 individuals each having an external pan-creatic fistula. A marked alteration in water balance, pro-tein level and plasma electrolytes (especially Na) occurred during high levels of pancreatic secretion. The Na loss resembled the syndrome of Addison. Secretion in response to secretin appears to be a filtration process. Large amts. of ionizable Ca are normally returned to the gastrointestinal tract through pancreatic secretion. Pancreatic secretion is markedly stimulated by adm. of histamine intramuscularly and by intraven. physiologic saline, with or without 5% glucose. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
