Anisotropic Optical Properties of (La1-xSrx)2CuO4 Single Crystal Thin Films

Abstract
Room temperature polarized reflection and transmission measurements in the 0.4 to 2.6 µm wavelength range for a superconducting (La1-x Sr x )2CuO4 thin film single crystal with a (103) surface are reported. The reflectance for the a-axis (Cu-O plane) polarization is typical of a metal with a plasma frequency of 0.87 eV, while that along [301̄] is almost like a semiconductor, at least in the present wavelength range. The results provide direct evidence of the two-dimensional elecironic structure in this compound.
