Abstract
We propose a new assignment for the ultraviolet optical spectra of II-IV- chalcopyrite crystals. The doubling of the number of optical transitions relative to III-V zinc-blende compounds results from the differences between the cation pseudopotentials, and the regular ordering of the cations in the chalcopyrite structure.
