The neuropathy of hypoglycemia

Abstract
Hypoglycemia due to insulin-secreting tumor of the pancreas is often associated with a distal, symmetrical, predominantly motor neuropathy. Atrophy in the hands may be the most striking physical finding. Electromyography abnormalities confirm the diffuse peripheral nerve damage. A gradient of sensitivity to glucose deficiency in the nervous system has been postulated on the basis of clinical, pathological, and chemical studies. Although peripheral nerve is at the bottom of this scale, polyneurop-athy seems to be a rather common accompaniment of hyperinsulinism.
