Abstract
When establishing rules for air conditioning at the work place it is desirable to combine at least six parameters to one numerical value to enable a comparison. The procedure to compile those indices is explained. A classification of indices (measurement of climatic parameters, empirical determination of physiological strain, calculation of heat exchange) is given. The validity of the different indices is discussed. Keywords
