Abstract
Sulfonamides exerted an in vitro bacteriostatic action on all pathogenic spp. of Clostridium tested. Order of effectiveness was sulfathiazole, sulfadiazine, sulfapyridine, sulfanilamide. Spp. of Clostridium against which sulfonamides exerted greatest in vitro bacteriostatic action were those which, like C. sordelli, produced least sulfonamide-inhibitor; spp. against which the sulfonamides exerted least bacteriostatic action were those which, like C. welchii, produced most inhibitor. This difference in sulfonamide-inhibitor production was demonstrated in filtrates of broth cultures and in water and ammonia extracts of the organisms. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
