Advances in intestinal anastomosis

Abstract
Three anastomoses, 1 each of silk, catgut and monofilament steel wire, were performed in 91 dogs. The incidence of leakage from the wire anastomoses was 2.2%, in contrast to 20.8% for silk and 1.25% for chromic catgut. The clinical study included 984 patients, of whom 588 had anastomoses of monofilament steel wire with an incidence of leakage of 2.56%, in contrast to 9.0% in 218 patients patients in whom 2-layer cotton and chromic catgut were used, and 6.0% in 115 patients with single-layer braided multifilament wire.
