Abstract
Experimental data on electron scattering, optical refractivity, and molecular anisotropy are used to construct a model dipole spectrum for molecular hydrogen which is consistent with oscillator‐strength sum rules. The model spectrum is used to calculate the parallel and perpendicular dynamic dipole polarizabilities, the refractive index, the Verdet constant, the Rayleigh scattering cross section, the Rayleigh depolarization factor, and the molecular anisotropy as a function of frequency of the incident radiation. The tensor components of the van der Waals coefficient for a pair of interacting hydrogen molecules are also calculated. Keywords
