Abstract
The ground-state energies of atoms and of rhombohedral and body-centered tetragonal atomic lattices have been calculated by density-functional theory for magnetic flux densities of - G. The cohesive energies derived are too small to support a finite-electric-field boundary condition at the polar cap in a pulsar magnetosphere.
