Effect of Sympathetic Nerve Stimulation on Blood Flow and Secretion in the Pancreas of the Cat

Abstract
In frozen-dried sections of quick-frozen cat''s pancreas, cholinergic sympathetic nerve stimulation apparently increased flow of blood through the capillary beds. This is consistent with the augmented pancreatic secretion produced by similar exptl. procedures. Stimulation of adrenergic nerve components apparently decreased the flow of blood and inhibited secretion. Since sympathetic nerves to the gland innervate only blood vessels, the apparent correlations between vasomotor activity and secretion under similar exptl. conditions support the conclusion that sympathetic regulation of pancreatic secretion is accomplished by vasomotor changes.Keywords
