Abstract
Preparations of human arylsulfatase A exhibit anomalous time-activity curves when incubated with dipotassium 2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl sulfate and other aryl sulfates. These anomalies can be considerably modified by varying the pH or temperature of the enzyme reaction and by varying the concentration of enzyme and substrate. The anomalous kinetics appear to be a feature peculiar to mammalian arylsulfatase A and are not shown by human arylsulfatase B or the arylsulfatases of limpets, Alcaligenes metalcalignes, taka-diastase and Helix pomatia. Keywords
