Abstract
The 4A2 to 4T2 zero-phonon spectrum of Cr3+ in MgO is interpreted by a Jahn-Teller effect with eg modes and coupling with a1g modes. It is shown that the mixing between 4T2 zero-phonon levels and 2E, 2T1 vibronic levels by spin-orbit interaction is determined for this spectrum. Keywords
