Measurement of the Decays $B \to φ K$ and $B \to φ K^{*}$

Abstract

We have observed the decays

B \to φ K

and

φ K^{*}

in a sample of over 45 million

B

mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. The measured branching fractions are

B (B^{+} \to φ K^{+}) = ({7.7}_{- 1.4}^{+ 1.6} \pm 0.8) \times 10^{- 6}

,

B (B^{0} \to φ K^{0}) = ({8.1}_{- 2.5}^{+ 3.1} \pm 0.8) \times 10^{- 6}

,

B (B^{+} \to φ K^{* +}) = ({9.7}_{- 3.4}^{+ 4.2} \pm 1.7) \times 10^{- 6}

, and

B (B^{0} \to φ K^{* 0}) = ({8.7}_{- 2.1}^{+ 2.5} \pm 1.1) \times 10^{- 6}

. We also report the upper limit

B (B^{+} \to φ π^{+}) < 1.4 \times 10^{- 6}
