Abstract
High-energy γ-ray bundles (Σ Eγ ≥ 2 TeV) were observed together with associated air showers at Mount Norikura (738 g cm-2). Many bundles were found to be located away from the air-shower axis determined by the contours of the particle density distribution in spark chambers. The lateral distribution of γ rays gives an average transverse momentum of at least 2.3-0.7+0.8GeV/c for the most forward jet of secondaries, which is equal to 0.57-0.09+0.13GeV/c for each neutral pion, with respect to the collision axis in the energy region around 1014 eV. EAS size dependences of γ-ray bundles suggest high multiplicity and increasing transverse momentum. However, if a change of primary composition is assumed, an interpretation without changing the interaction drastically may be possible. Keywords
