Abstract
The odour character and potency of nootkatone obtained from grapefruit oil were compared with those of some closely related compounds. It has been found that these compounds may differ considerably in quality but the potency remains similar. In addition, synthesised racemic nootkatone was found to have the same potency as the naturally occurring material. Keywords
