Abstract
A system for recording the geometry and perfusion of nail-fold capillaries is presented. The performance of capillaroscopy is discussed and geometrical and dynamic parameters are discussed. In particular the difficulties of determining erythrocyte column diameters are examined by comparing the conventional monitor evaluation with the results obtained with the image analyser. With the monitor method, the diameter of the erythrocyte column is underestimated by a mean of about 36%. The method is demonstrated on the basis of a study of 100 apparently healthy subjects aged between 20 and 40 years. A sex-related difference concerning geometrical and dynamic parameters was not found. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
