Abstract
Sliding tubes have been developed to keep the sigmoid colon straight and allow the quick insertion of the colonoscope into the proximal colon. However, there are some problems associated with using the sliding tubes currently available. In particular, the attachment of the sliding tube sometimes affects insertion since the effective length of the scope is reduced. A newly developed jointed sliding tube, the ST‐CX2, consists of an inner tube and an outer tube. Both parts are made of polytetrafluoroethylene and are elastic and thin. The length of the ST‐CX2 is only 227 mm when contracted, and it can be used with medium‐length colonoscopes. The sliding tube is 450 mm long when fully extended and its tip can, without exception, be introduced into the descending colon. The development of this new instrument has made total colonoscopy easier. Keywords
