Abstract
The lattice dynamics of diamond have been reinvestigated on the basis of a Born-von Karman (BVK) model. Contrary to various claims in the literature, it is shown that when coupling coefficients of the correct form are used the two-neighbour BVK model, with five adjustable parameters, can give a good description of the observed neutron scattering data for diamond other than for the lowest acoustic branch at lower frequencies. Keywords
