Abstract
The incidence of hemochromatosis, its symptomatology and the changes in the blood picture are reviewed. A series of 36 cases was observed. The etiology of the disease is discussed and illustrated by new results of investigations. In 2 cases the Fe content of the organs was detd. chemically and the variable pattern of the distribution of Fe in the organs was shown. The serum Fe was estimated in 20 cases and the serum Cu in 5 cases. Absorption of Fe from the gut was measured by the use of radioactive Fe (Fe59) given orally in 2 cases, where it was increased. Crystals of ferritin were demonstrated in material obtained by liver puncture in one case. Keywords
