Abstract
54% of 158 pregnant women were found to be truly anemic often resulting from Fe deficiency, impaired Fe utilization, impaired Fe absorption, and low intake of food Fe. Authors indicate a rather close correlation existing between incidence of macrocytic anemia and inadequate intake of animal protein (normal should be 50 G daily). Inorganic ferrous preps. are the most effective and least irritating forms of Fe for use in treatment of hypochromic anemia of pregnancy. Keywords
