Abstract
The relative value of characters used in the definition of chrysochlorid genera [Chrysospalax, Eremitalpa, Amblysomus, Chlorotalpa, Carpitalpa and Chrysochloris] and of the groupings of species proposed in the recent revisions is discussed. Evidence of a gradient consists in the growth of the volume of the temporal bulla; the reduction of the talonids; and the shortening of the skull, from the Cameroon Chrysochloris stuhlmanni balsaci to the South African C. asiatica.
