Abstract
We derive a formula which expresses the low frequency longitudinal mechanical transfer function of thin smectic A slab having homeotropic structure in terms of the layer compression modulus and the viscosity coefficients. A corresponqing formula for thin homeotropic nematic slab is also given. Keywords
