Hereditary Idiopathic Diabetes Insipidus

Abstract
Post-mortem examination of a patient with hereditary, idiopathic diabetes insipidus revealed a striking decrease in the nerve cells of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus with an associated mild gliosis. These findings are similar to those in the 5 previously reported cases of idiopathic diabetes insipidus. The etiology of this primary degeneration of nerve cells remains obscure. Inheritance in this family was autosomal dominant.
