Abstract
To clarify the relation between a molecular structure and an order parameter of a dichroic dye of a guest-host liquid-crystal cell, a ratio l/d of a length l to a diameter d of a circumscribed cylinder of the dichroic dye is used as a parameter. Experimental results clarify that there exists an obvious correlation between l/d and an order parameter of a long axis of the dye molecule; information is obtained on ordering state of the dye dissolved in the liquid crystal, especially the performance of flexible parts of the dye molecule. Keywords
