Abstract
A significant adrenal ascorbic acid depletion results from the stress of acute unilateral adrenalectomy in the cat. Hydrocortisone pretreatment blocks this response, and exogenous ACTH overcomes corticoid blockade, as in the rat. The cat does not demonstrate as unequivocally as other species "compensatory" adrenal hypertrophy in response to chronic unilateral adrenalectomy.
