Abstract
Monte Carlo simulations which incorporate experimental selection criteria show that many features of local interactions in the Brazil-Japan emulsion chamber at Mt. Chacaltaya can be understood in terms of conventional ideas extrapolated from accelerator energies. This experiment provides the most direct information that currently exists on strong interactions up to about 100 TeV. A feature without which the data cannot be understood is the inclusion of a large fraction of hard scattering. Keywords
