Abstract
The uptakes of ceri-um and of gross fission products by 12 bacteria, 4 yeasts, and 9 molds were studied under pure culture conditions. Significant uptakes were observed in all cases in which adequate growth was obtained. With few exceptions the uptake of cerium was considerably higher than that of fission products. These findings suggest ecological significance for the lanthanide components of fission products. Keywords
