Abstract
The thermophilic fungus, Humicola insolens YH-8 exhibited high β-glucosidase activity when grown in solid wheat bran medium. The β-glucosidase was purified from the culture extract by consecutive column chromatographies and found to be homogeneous on polyacrylamide gel disc electrophoresis. The molecular weight was estimated to be 250,000 by SDS-gel electrophoresis, and the isoelectric point was at pH 4.23. The enzyme had an optimum pH of 5.0, an optimum temperature of 50°C, and showed significant resistance to urea, dimethyl sulfoxide and ethyl alcohol. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
