Abstract
Quinine and mepacrine do not destroy pre-erythrocytic stages of P. cynomolgi, chloroquin has only a slight repressive effect, proguanil suppresses but does not destroy these tissue stages, sulphadiazine has a somewhat similar action, but pamaquin seems to destroy them completely. Tests against immune monkeys seem to indicate that such immunity is only against the blood parasites since the tissue stages develop normally but cannot successfully set up their blood cycle. 4-day-old pre-erythrocytic stages were the youngest found. Rhesus monkeys seem to be immune to infection by P. vivax sporozoites and such animals are probably not reservoirs for this type of human malaria. Keywords
