Abstract
A colorimetric method is described for the determination of guanidines using the red-colored complex with diacetyl and a-naphthol. To the sample in 1 ml of 3[image]NaOH is added a solution of 5% [alpha]-naphthol, 0.025% diacetyl in n-propanol. Time to maximum color development is proportional to temperature. The method is suitable for various guanidines including arginine and streptomycin and for arginine in protein hydrolysates. Keywords
