Abstract
The administration of androgens produced changes on the electrophoretic lipid pattern and the serum lipid contents in 19 postmenopausal women and women of fertile age who were treated with methylandrostenediol, (MAD) methyltestosterone, (MTS) or testosterone propionate (TSP). In 10 postmenopausal cases, the total fat content of the serum decreased during treatment, and increased on withdrawal. The alpha lipoproteins, expressed as percentage of total serum fat, decreased on administration of androgens in 15 of 19 cases. When treatment stopped, values increased in 5 of 8 cases examined. The serum cholesterol and phos-pholipid content decreased during treatment in 12 cases and 13 cases respectively and as a rule increased after cessation of treatment. The cholesterol-phospholipid ratio was less uniform. However, on the average the treatment produced the same type of effect as on the total fat, i.e., a decrease in the level. Keywords
