Urea and spinal cord trauma

Abstract
Dogs were subjected to measured spinal cord trauma. Half of the animals were treated with concentrated intravenous urea solution. Forty-four % of the animals with trauma alone ultimately walked without noticeable neurologic deficit. Fifty-six % of the animals in this group exhibited some form of neurologic deficit during the time limits of this study (120 days). In comparison, all of the animals with urea following trauma walked without visible evidence of neurologic deficit within 73 days. Histologic observations are compatible with these findings.
