Abstract
The classroom behavior of second-grade pupils is, in most but not in all ways, statistically independent of their families' income. But teachers of low-income family pupils criticize more often, are more directive, seem much more concerned with control. The author argues that these teachers prepare their pupils for failure. Keywords
