Neonatal Familial Primary Hyperparathyroidism

Abstract
THIS report concerns 2 male sibs with hypercalcemia caused by neonatal familial primary hyperparathyroidism. In the literature there are only a few reports of familial hyperparathyroidism.1 , 2 These patients were adults, and in each case, single or multiple parathyroid adenomas were found; the inheritance of the condition appears to be dominant. Primary hyperparathyroidism in childhood is uncommon. Seven examples of parathyroid adenomas in preadolescents have been reported,3 and none were familial. There have been three other reports in which there was diffuse parathyroid hyperplasia associated with hypercalcemia.4 5 6 In each case the condition was fatal in early infancy.
