TESTOSTERONE TREATMENT AND 17-KETOSTEROID EXCRETION

Abstract
Single intramusc. injns. of testosterone propionate in an emulsion of benzylalcohol and water were given to 4 healthy young and middle-aged men. Detns. of the urinary excretion of 17-ketosteroids revealed that the hormone was absorbed from the emulsion somewhat more slowly than from oily solns. but much faster than from a commercial crystal-suspension prepn. It is assumed that some absorption occurs from the emulsion before the crystallization has taken place, and that the crystals formed in the human muscular tissues are, on the avg., smaller than those present in the commercial crystal-suspension prepn.
