Abstract
During aseptic inflammation there is a rise in the histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) contents of the skin and several internal organs in mice and rats. The time course of this rise has been worked out. Depletion of histamine or 5-HT, adversely affects the exudative or reparative phases of inflammation in the rat. Reserpine, the agent used to deplete 5-HT, produces an effect which resembles the action of antiinflammatory steroids like prednisolone. Keywords
