Abstract
Summary A successful method of feeding the human body louse has been developed by using a gutta percha membrane of a thickness and texture adapted to the size and function of the mouthparts of this arthropod. The initiation of the feeding attempt was found to be a function of the surface character and ambient temperature, while feeding results were related to the instar and to the temperature and thickness of the membrane. These membranes may have many practical applications in the feeding of other arthropods, including the argasid ticks.Keywords
