Abstract
Methods for the determination of the water‐soluble carbohydrates in both fresh and ensiled materials are discussed. A technique has been developed for the estimation of the oligosaccharides in grasses, after their separation from the other free sugars by paper chromatography. Their fructose content is determined by a colorimetric method, and fructose, glucose and galactose are estimated after their complete hydrolysis with 0.5N‐sulphuric acid. Keywords
