Abstract
FAMILIAL cardiac enlargement of unknown cause was described by Evans1 in 1949. He presented the clinical and pathological features of 3 patients in two generations of a family, and his report included 7 other patients presenting similar clinical and pathological features. He also called attention to a case presented in 19422 discussing 3 siblings with cardiac enlargement of unknown cause. Because of the close resemblance, clinically and pathologically, of Evans's 10 cases he applied the name familial cardiomegaly to the entire group. Since the two communications cited above, at least 15 additional reports on this subject have appeared in the . . .Keywords
