The Periodontium and Salivary Glands in the Alarm Reaction

Abstract
The alarm reaction was induced in albino rats by using repeated injns. of 4% formaldehyde as the stressor mechanism. The presence of the alarm reaction was demonstrated by gross and microscopic changes in the adrenal glands, thymus, spleen, and gastrointestinal tract. No notable gross or microscopic changes were observed in the periodontium. Salivary gland changes in the alarm reaction consisted of reduction of inter-acinar connective tissue and degeneration of acinar cells.Keywords
