The Cochlear Implant: 1980 Update

Abstract
In the past two years, the Hearing Rehabilitation Research Center (an affiliate of the Ear Research Institute, Los Angeles, California) cochlear implant program has grown tremendously. in August 1978 a total of 33 patients had been implanted with single-electrode cochlear implants (House et al., 1979). As of August 1980, 110 patients have been implanted; 66 by William F. House, M.D. and 44 by co-investigators. the prosthesis and the cochlear implant program have been described in the past (e.g., House et al., 1976; House etal., 1979; House, 1980).
