Abstract
Ultrasonic results obtained in TBBA and CBOOA near the nematic-smectic-A phase transition are compared. In both compounds the anomalies in the velocity and in the attenuation can be explained by a relaxation of the heat capacity. The critical shear contributions, the background absorptions, and the frequency regimes are discussedKeywords
