Abstract
Chronically obese women with no history of diabetes mellitus can be divided into two groups—a “latent diabetic” or “prediabetic diabetic” group and a “nondiabetic” or “normal” group—on the basis of five hour glucose tolerance tests. “Latent diabetic” obese women have elevated total lipid and triglyceride levels compared to those of the “nondiabetic” obese women and even greater values than those of a control group of women of normal weight. Serum cholesterol levels are essentially normal and similar in all groups through a long range of ages. Keywords
