Abstract
An unusual case of hypertensive encephalopathy in a 12-year-old boy is reported. The patient had transient episodes of coma and hemiparalysis, consecutively on both sides. With the removal of a parathyroid adenoma, the hypertension subsided and the patient recovered without neurologic deficit. The literature on hyperparathyroidism in children is breifly reviewed and the mechanism in this particular case is discussed.
