Abstract
Nucleation and growth of calcium oxalate trihydrate from supersaturated solutions containing a high MW inhibitor fraction found in urine were sharply reduced to the extent that calcium oxalate dihydrate was formed. Kinetics of the latter hydrate apparently were reduced with increasing inhibitor concentration. The effect of the negatively charged urine inhibitor on crystal growth of calcium oxalate apparently correlated with inhibition found in studies involving high MW mucopolysaccharides such as heparin.
