Abstract
The creatine clearance (CC) in the phlorizinized dog is a curvilinear function of plasma creatine conc. below 5 mgm.%. Between 20 and 130 mgm.% the CC is essentially independent of the plasma creatine conc. The simultaneously determined CC, creatinine, xylose, and glucose clearances agree within an av. of [plus or minus]5% in the phlorizinized dog, which is presumptive evidence that the clearance of any one of these substances approximates the glomerular clearance. The CC and creatinine clearance drop to the xylose level, the glucose clearance rises to the xylose level and the xylose clearance itself does not appreciably change following administration of phlorizin.
