Abstract
Results of a survey for the occurrence of antimicrobial substances in chlorophyllose plants growing in Florida are reported. Results on plant extracts of 102 spp. involving 126 plant parts and comprising over 1500 individual tests are recorded. Tests were made for inhibitory activity against Micrococcus pyogenes var. aureus (P209), Pseudomonas aeruginosa. and Candida albicans. Fifty-eight of the 102 spp. showed inhibitory power against one or more of the test organisms. Of the plants tested, Clematis dioscoreifolia and Viorna crispa showed a very high degree of inhibiting activity against all 3 microorganisms. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
