Abstract

Striking destructive interference effects have been observed in the

{}^{4}{He}

excitation of the

2^{+}

and

4^{+}

ground-state band rotational states in deformed even-

{}^{154}{Sm}

,

{}^{166}{Er}

, and

{}^{182}W

. The

E 2

and

E 4

transition moments and charge deformation parameters,

β_{20}^{c}

and

β_{40}^{c}

, are given.
