Regranulation of Beta Cells of Islets of Langerhans Following Insulin and Starvation

Abstract
In albino rats whose beta cells of the islets of Langerhans were degranulated by means of insulin or starvation, a high carbohydrate diet brought about regranulation of the beta cells more quickly than a normal diet. Starved rats regranulated more quickly than insulin-treated rats. Since the beta granules are thought to represent stored insulin, the disappearance and reappearance of insulin in the islets of Langerhans has been described under specific conditions.Keywords
