Abstract
We have developed a theory which describes the excitation of surface polaritons, via two nondegenerate laser beams, at a smooth interface formed by a metallic substrate and a material which displays a second-order optical nonlinearity. Detailed calculations suggest that excitation will be most efficient at the longer wavelengths where the surface polaritons exhibit little loss and are well-defined excitations. Keywords
